The China State Sports Commission gave official recognition to Mahjong in January 1998. This lead to international Mahjong rules being established and finally these rules were adopted for various international tournaments. This was a good thing for Mahjong as there are many rules and variations of the game that are played all over the world, though it originally a Chinese game.

The rules for international Mahjong are now governed by the World Mahjong Organization and they are sometimes referred to as Chinese Official Rules, World Mahjong Contest Rules or Official International Rules.

An Overview Of Preinstalled Games In Windows Vista

Posted on August 07, 2010 by

Microsoft changed many aspects of the gaming experienced in Windows Vista in comparison to their previous operating system Windows XP. One of the major differences between both platforms was the redesign of all games to match the visual changes that have been introduced in Windows Vista.

Games like Minesweeper or FreeCell received a much needed visual update with improved graphics and audio. This was something that Microsoft has not done since Windows 95. Looking back most games that came preinstalled in Microsoft operating systems looked the same over the years. Minesweeper for one did not look that much different in Windows 95 and some people say that even experienced users would be hard pressed to tell the differences.

The Attraction of Skill Games

Posted on August 07, 2010 by

A game of skill is a game where the result is determined generally by mental and/or physical skill, as opposed to pure chance or luck.

I was doing research recently as we wanted to add a Learn Skill Games program to our gambling information site and along the way, I discovered the attraction of these games.

Not only do players revel in the challenge and the wide variety of game choices/types, but also the mention of checkers, dominoes, hangman and jigsaw puzzles brings on fond childhood memories. Most of us then graduated to rummy, backgammon, scrabble and the ultimate challenge-chess.

The Amazing Game of Rummikub Online

Posted on August 03, 2010 by

Rummikub is an unusual name for a game. For those who are curious about the game, and want to know more about what the game is about, here is a quick primer.

The Rummikub game originated from Isreal, and bears remarkable resemblance to Mahjong. Mahjong is a much more common game, and many people are already familiar with it. When you think about Mahjong, the first thing that comes to mind is that it’s played with tiles. Similarly, Rummikub is also played with tiles. Like Mahjong, they usually come in a wide range of cases, each carrying a set of hundred and six playing tiles, complete with playing racks for up to four people. Each rack will hold up to twenty four tiles for each player.

Is Online Mahjong set to be the Next-Big-Thing?

Posted on August 01, 2010 by

Mahjong is an incredibly popular game in the Far East, and has been for literally thousands of years! There is even a myth that it was created by the mighty Confucius himself, although that is likely to be just an old wives tale.

But it is practically certain that he did play it, as did any learned person in 500 B.C. in Ancient China.  It has often been compared to the simple English card game of Gin Rummy, and it was usually played with cards instead of blocks until the current sets could be easily mass-produced.
